The Story That Moved Me To Tears
I’ve just posted one of MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE stories — The Pickle Jar
You’ll know why The Pickle Jar story moved me to tears when I read it… so if you haven’t read it yet, do click on “MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE –> The Pickle Jar”… then come back to this post!
I like to dedicate a special thanks to the person who forwarded it to me – Alex Chew, M&Y Graduate March 2005.
It had stirred some deep emotions in me…remembering my childhood and the values that I caught from my parents. Both my parents were civil servants – and I remember them saying to me, when you grow up, don’t do what I’m doing now – don’t be a teacher like me. Do well in your studies, get a good degree and join the public sector.
As a child, I had always felt that we had more than enough… I had more than what some other kids had and I am indeed very grateful. If ever my parents had ‘money problems’, they had never discussed it in front of us (not that I could remember). They just did what they had to do to earn that little extra…there’s a roof over our heads, clothes on our back, food on the table, and there’s always enough for a few luxuries like chocolate, ice-cream, toys, holidays on the beach… It was only when I was studying in the University that my mum actually said to me there were times when it was hard to make ends meet. Even if they could save just $10-$30 at the end of the month – that was very good. I was completely shocked… because all this while I had always felt rich.
This really hit me… who decides that we are rich?
I do!
When I declare that I’m rich… I am. Does making millions make you rich? If that is what I say to myself… then it’s true.
As we say in Money & You…
What’s your definition of rich?
How do you see yourself as rich?
It’s not just about saying it, it’s being completely congruent – my mind, body, and spirit in alignment.
Have you ever met wealthy people who are living as if money is scarce?
Have you seen less well to do families living as if there’s absolutely no worries in the world and enjoying every moment of their life…
What kind of belief or habit are we passing to our children… something for us to ponder about our ACTIONS, our WORDS, our HABITS and our BELIEFS that we are either consciously or unconciously passing on to others…
