We completed another term on June 20, 2007 – with the theme “Believe It or Not” with a message that we each took home that night inspired by the 10th speech, “TOASTMASTERS JOURNEY — A Hero’s Journey” by Hanson Lye…

That made me reflect on my own journey as a Money & You® Toastmaster… one of my greatest fear was public speaking and I had a big block when it comes to communication whether it’s one to one, or in a group. I would rather hide behind my computer than meet people.
How my journey began was because of another toastmaster – Muheeth Khan, every 1st and 3rd Wed, he would pass by my desk and say, “Jacy, you’re from Money & You®… you should join toastmasters.”
This went on for like 6 months!
I just said to myself,
“No way! If it’s public speaking… I’d rather dig a hole and stick my head in it then be in front of a bunch of people making a complete fool of myself.”
It came to a point when I felt… pain, and frustration, because I knew that being a part of the Money & You® Team, I’m in the people business… and that means that like it or not, I have to communicate.
I had two options, to let my fear get the better of me and quit my job, or do something about it. My passion for Money & You® was growing by the day, and each time any Money & You® activity is on – I’m there. It then dawned on me that my Passion outweighed my Fear. I had a big reason to choose to go beyond it or have that be a block for the rest of my life… be it in my career, or even my own relationships. I choose to turn this Fear into My Passion.
A year later… our club was in a state of emergency with the number of members dwindling by the month… it came to a point where we only had less than a handful of active members. This was a state of DO or DIE. We called for an emergency meeting. The people who came together that night was indeed, I would call… A MIRACLE – three of them were guests who had visited our club only twice (and they all happen to be Business School for Entrepreneurs -BSE- graduates) and the other three were members.
That was my first experience of true COMMITMENT, RESPONSIBILITY and SYNERGY. And so, we started anew with 6 members. Today, we have reached not only charter strength of a minimum of 20 members but also, achieved Distinguished Club status. It was truly an honour for me to pass the Light of Money & You® Toastmasters to Fong Kok Loon – bringing Money & You® Toastmasters to a whole new level.
Our goal that term is to inspire half the members complete their basic manual of 10 prepared speeches and move together to take on the challenge of the advanced manual together.
My term as a President of Money & You® Toastmasters was one of the most profound and enriching experiences of my life. From being a shy little mouse to being invited before an audience of over 50 toastmasters from around the Klang Valley area – sharing with them, how Money & You® Toastmasters did it.
How we did it… if I could put it in just one sentence I would say –
“In anything that we do, we choose to do it with Enjoyment”
And with Enjoyment… comes Passion!
This is a club with a lot of Heart and Electrifying Spirit that it’s simply contagious!
