How To Sniff Out Sharks! Put a Stop to Scammers!
My father was scammed! I don’t want it to happen to you or your loved ones. These people have no conscience at all so please help to put a STOP to it and SPREAD the word around. Tell your parents especially, because they like to target old folks… waiting for their preys outside banks and supermarkets.
My dad was approached by a young man just as he left the bank. This man kept pushing him to open a sealed voucher to see if he’s the lucky winner… saying that Giant, Carrefour and some other companies are sponsoring gifts. My dad had refused but this guy was very persistent and kept pushing my dad to just open the voucher. He opened the sealed and there was a silver box. My dad said so what does this mean, there’s nothing there and wanted to walk off. Then the guy started getting so excited and said, in the whole Malaysia only 200 people will get this silver box - You are very lucky and you won RM6,000 (that’s what my dad heard him say). Then my dad said, ok, show me the money and this guy said, you must go to the office to collect it… this is how they get people emotionally high. If this ever happens to you, ALARM BELLS! Don’t follow them.
My dad drove to the office with this guy in the car as well. Once there, they somehow coerced him to paying about RM7,800 just to participate in a contest that guarantees he’d win prizes, showing him newspaper cuttings of past winner etc. He came back home in a daze, the car full of the “prizes” he’d won (which he actually paid for) — sewing machine, two jade mattresses (I don’t think it’s even jade), a mini stereo system, an electric stove, and two more items which he couldn’t fit in the car.
We got very suspicious of them… and started checking out the receipts. The amount that was on the receipt and the amount that was swiped did not tally. So my mom called them up to clarify. She managed to get them to agree to meet up with us the next morning. The same evening we decided to pay them a surprise visit to catch them off-guard and do some detective work. We took some photos of these documents and their premises.
These are some of the documents they use to trick people into paying — this is a scam using lucky draw which is an illegal business. The costs that the customer has to bear does not even make sense!
Kos Kerajaan (Cukai Hasil) — Government Cost (Tax)
Kos Pengangkutan — Transportation Cost
Kos Pengiklanan — Advertising Cost
Kos Gaji Pekerja — Salary Cost
We even went to check out two other premises that was stated on the receipt and the credit card slip… one of the lot was up for rent/sale. The other was using a different name.
WATCH OUT FOR THESE NAMES AND BE PROVOKED! PUT AN END TO IT!

8. WELLNIC SUPPLY SDN BHD
9. INTOUCH WORLD
10. BRAND HOME EQUIPMENT
11. NABINCO NETWORK SDN BHD
12. WELLEY CORPORATION SDN BHD
This company even advertises in the newspaper, typically Chinese and Bahasa newspaper — the ones that they mentioned are Utusan Malaysia and Guang Ming (sounds something like that)
We went see them the next day, and the moment we walked in, we heard lots of cheering in another room… pumping up their sales team to go out and find more shark baits! We were very uncomfortable. We saw the person whom my dad spoke to the other day, and she was doing her best to explain to us that what had happened. All we wanted was the money back and we return the goods. At that time, she said that she’ll only returned half and refused to cancel the whole transaction. I called my lawyer friend to ask what to do, and handed the phone to her. After she spoke to our lawyer, we left and went to fax the police report and dispute on the credit card transaction to the bank.
Then the manager called us back to discuss a settlement and agreed to give us back the money in a week by cheque. I don’t know if we’ll get our money back but we shall see in a week. If he doesn’t live up to his word, we have lots of evidence to put these people in a hot seat and hopefully out of business. For now, I don’t know how else to put a stop to these sharks but keep spreading the word around.
What I’m disappointed about is that the banks do not protect their clients and are abetting these scammers to do whatever they want because of so-called “policies”! The response I got from the bank is that… we can’t do anything to cancel the transaction unless the merchant agrees to reimburse it to you! What’s the probability of scammers doing that?
This is where I want to see a big change. If you are from the banking industry, hear the voice of the people… it could be you or someone close to you who may become a prey. What are the banks doing to protect their clients? If you know anyone at all who can help to put a stop to this please let me know.
What I want to see happen most of all is this… as a customer, even though we were fooled or coerced into signing/authorizing the transaction, if we were to suspect fraud or scams, and we call up to report it with a police report — banks to immediately cancel the transaction and take action on the scammers!
How they operate is being very high on emotions and wanting to get you excited by claiming that you are the lucky winner but opening up some kind of envelope or voucher or scratch and win! If they keep pushing you quickly go to their office to collect the prizes — that is a shark! Report these people to the police. It’s a scam using lucky draw and it’s an illegal business. They tempt people by saying you’ll have the opportunity to wins not only one but 2, 3, 4 or 5 prizes and that you’re the only 200 lucky people in the whole country.
If you are ever sold to anything based on excitement and emotions… don’t be led by it! They will get you so hyped up that you don’t know what you are doing.
After this drama, it makes me even more passionate to enroll more people to Money & You so that they can sniff out sharks and scammers better. I don’t know how they sleep at night!
Remember the lesson from Money & You…
When EMOTIONS are high, INTELLIGENCE is low.
Always watch yourself if you are ever in such a situation.
Protect yourself by putting a limit on your credit card, and instruct your bank to call you if there’s any suspicious transactions immediately. If you know any other way to protect yourself, please share it under the comments section and I’ll post it out to people so that they are aware too.

Sorry to hear what had happened.. So does the police report allowed your dad to cancel the bank transaction? Because such cases had happened in Singapore. And Singapore police did contacted the bank to stop the payment.

I have similar case with you guys and total amount loss is RM12,000. they agreed to pay back half, i refused, and now i have lodged a police report, wrote a letter of 10 days cooling off period under direct selling acts to Nabinco Network Sdn Bhd, and even call the credit card company to cancel the transaction but only told can be be treated as dispute transaction. even seek advise from KPDNHEP and lodge my complaint to tribulent.
I need your guys feedback on whether the credit company allows the dispute transaction consider as dispute? All the credit company has to protect the customer/consumer and the above transaction is very strong evidence of default transaction.
I hope the Bank Negara can set a new policy to allow the credit card company the have ultimate right to cancel the merchant transaction if discover the transaction is not a genius transaction where the police report and tribulent report are the strong evident to prove. To preven this company to continue to scam all the innocent parties.
By spreading the scam news, it will only will help in minimum way, i think all parties, such as police, KPDNHEP, credit card company and other parties concern, must work closing together to prevent the scamming continue to hurt the innocent parties. Being a Malaysian I am very disappointed to know that the scam and cheating issue has been running since 2006, and the scam companies selling licence has long been cancelled but still can continue to run illegal and cheating activities but all the parties concern can not do nothing about.
To the victim i advise not to accept the half of the amount paid from the scam company as this will help the scamming company to continue their activities in easy way out. Being a victim dont have the attidute of “hassle” also help others to prevent it from happening, continue your right make a police report, go to tribulent, KPDNHEP and also if the issue happen within 10days, write a “cooling off letter to the scam company by hand if fail by courier to make sure they received the letter, so that you have strong evident to get your full money back.
Thanks
Regards,
jasmine
